Pulled Pork with Homemade Sauce

If you love pulled pork like my family does, but want a healthier version, this is the one for you. This recipe is from NW Kidney and can be found HERE. This is a homemade BBQ sauce since regular BBQ sauce can be so full of sugar and unhealthy ingredients. There may be a lot of ingredients but this is a slow cooker recipe so, once the sauce is made, it's just a sit-and-go recipe from there. You can turn this into a pulled pork sandwich or just eat the pulled pork plain, like we did. We served ours with potatoes and broccoli.

Ingredients:
1 cup ketchup (preferrably low sodium although I couldn't find this anywhere) I was able to find a no-sugar ketchup
1 cup no-salt tomato sauce
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tsp liquid smoke
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp paprika
3 cinnamon sticks
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp pepper
4 pounds pork shoulder roast

Directions:
Mix all ingredients (except the pork shoulder) in a bowl to make the BBQ sauce.

Place the pork roast in the crockpot and pour the BBQ over it and the cinnamon sticks.

Set on high for 4-6 hours. Shred pork by pulling apart. Serve with vegetables or add to a sandwich.
